Deb Fischer Promises To Bring Nebraska Values To Washington In NEGOP Convention Speech

July 14, 2012

“Bob Kerrey And Ben Nelson Have Already Had Their Chances. Now It’s Time For Someone New, Someone Different. Someone Who Will Bring Nebraska To Washington…Not Washington To Nebraska.”

GRAND ISLAND, Nebraska, July 14, 2012 - Today, U.S. Senate candidate Deb Fischer delivered her speech to NEGOP Convention delegates, earning thunderous applauds and several standing ovations.

Fischer drew a sharp contrast with her opponent, Democrat Bob Kerrey.

“Bob Kerrey and Ben Nelson have already had their chances. Now it’s time for someone new, someone different. Someone who will bring Nebraska to Washington…not Washington to Nebraska.”

Fischer also highlighted her accomplishments in the Nebraska Legislature, including passing the largest tax relief bill in state history and balancing the budget eight times. She noted that while she has the grassroots support of Nebraskans across the state, her opponent was recruited by Washington insiders:

“One candidate has been recruited by Harry Reid and the Obama Administration to come back to Nebraska so the Democrats can hold onto their majority in the United States Senate. That’s right. The very same Washington insiders who gave us Ben Nelson’s Cornhusker Kickback are now trying to send Bob Kerrey to the U.S. Senate.”

Fischer called out Bob Kerrey and the Nebraska Democrat Party for running a false negative attack ad on her family’s ranching business and Nebraska’s agriculture industry:

“Now we have a Democratic Party and Bob Kerrey saying that farm programs and conservation programs are welfare. Really? Maybe instead of flying back and forth to New York City, Bob Kerrey should meet with members of our largest community industry in the state and start talking to members of the ag community and rural communities.”

Fischer also noted her steadfast support of the full repeal and replacement of Obamacare. Bob Kerrey opposes the repeal of Obamacare and has been a long-time advocate of single-payer, government-run health care.

“Once Obamacare is fully implemented, it will be a disaster for the economy, causing uncertainty and job losses. But with your help, the very same Senate seat that gave us Obamacare will become the Senate seat that repeals it.”
