Bob Kerrey: Liberal Ideology Ahead Of American Jobs and Small Businesses

July 11, 2012

“The NFIB made clear with their endorsement today that Nebraska needs a Senator like Deb Fischer who will be a strong advocate for small businesses, not a roadblock like Bob Kerrey.”

LINCOLN, Nebraska, July 11, 2012 - Earlier today, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy group, endorsed Deb Fischer over Bob Kerrey, calling her “the proven voice for small business in this race.”

The NFIB previously endorsed Democrat Ben Nelson for U.S. Senate in 2006.

The endorsement should not be a surprise given Bob Kerrey’s anti-business voting record as a U.S. Senator and his support of policies that would destroy American jobs.

Bob Kerrey supports job-killing cap and trade legislation while both Nelson and Fischer strongly oppose it.

BEN NELSON: “…I can to make sure nothing happens that has a big negative impact on our economy. I’m not the only senator who feels this way. Many of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle have similar concerns regarding the bill’s impact on their home states.” (Ben Nelson, “Looking Out For Nebraskans Over Cap and Trade,” 5/17/10)

Remarkably, Kerrey has even admitted that cap and trade legislation would have disastrous effects on our economy and kill American jobs.

BOB KERREY: “So unless, in my view, it is framed in that kind of moral context, it’s very difficult to get into the economic development argument that you can create more jobs than are likely to be destroyed.” (Bob Kerrey, Remarks At Tishman Auditorium, New York City, 10/22/09)

But regardless of how many American jobs would be lost, Bob Kerrey still lobbied senators to support cap and trade:

BOB KERREY: “I’m on the board of National Resources Defense Council, and climate change legislation is the top of their agenda. And uh, I have the uh, I would say unenviable task of trying to persuade 8 to 10 Senators to vote in the affirmative.” (Bob Kerrey, Remarks At Tishman Auditorium, New York City, 10/22/09)

“Bob Kerrey has demonstrated he’s going to put a liberal agenda ahead of American jobs and small businesses. Kerrey has been lobbying for anti-business legislation that even many of his fellow Democrats are opposed to,” said Fischer campaign spokesman Daniel Keylin. “The NFIB made clear with their endorsement today that Nebraska needs a Senator like Deb Fischer who will be a strong advocate for small businesses, not a roadblock like Bob Kerrey.”
