DEB FISCHER ANNOUNCES STATEWIDE CO-CHAIRS

Wednesday, August 31, 2011 – Sen. Deb Fischer, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, announced today her statewide co-chairs for her U.S. Senate campaign.

Governor Kay Orr, Congressman John Y. McCollister, Senator Tom Hansen, and Mr. Todd Schroeder will serve as statewide co-chairs for Deb Fischer for U.S. Senate.

Governor Orr, of Lincoln, was elected in 1986 as Nebraska’s 36th governor and became the first female Republican to hold that office in our nation’s history. She also served as
Nebraska’s State Treasurer from 1981 to 1986. She also served on the RNC platform committee at the request of President Reagan.

Congressman McCollister, of Omaha, represented Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District from 1971 to 1977 and also served as a Douglas County Commissioner.

Senator Hansen, of North Platte, is a rancher and small-business owner who represents the 42nd district in the Nebraska Unicameral. In the legislature, he serves on the
Appropriations Committee.

Mr. Schroeder, of Wisner, is a cattleman and the 2011 recipient of the Outstanding LEAD Alumni Award. Mr. Schroeder has worked for Nebraska’s agricultural community in a variety of capacities, including serving on the National Cattlemen’s Beef
Association Board of Directors and as the president of the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association.

The four chairs are providing counsel to the campaign as it moves towards the election.

“I’m grateful to have the support of Governor Orr, Congressman McCollister, Senator Hansen and Mr. Schroeder. These four leaders have served Nebraska with great distinction and I’m honored to have their insights and wisdom on my campaign,” Sen. Fischer stated. “I’m excited that Nebraskans across all parts of the state are joining this effort. My proven leadership and conservative record are a strong contrast with Ben
Nelson’s record of supporting ObamaCare and the failed stimulus package. It is time to bring true Nebraska values back to Washington.”

Sen. Fischer is a lifelong Nebraskan who co-owns a ranching operation near Valentine.  Over the last seven years, Fischer has served the 43rd district in the Nebraska Legislature.  Known as an experienced and effective legislator, she currently serves as Chair of the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee and is a member of the Revenue Committee and the Executive Board.
